As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments today in a landmark case that seeks to establish “marriage equality” as the law of the land, my thoughts turned to Kody Brown, David Epstein and Kenneth Pinyan.

Brown, who appears with his four brides and 17 children in the TLC reality show “Sister Wives,” faces prosecution for violating Utah’s ban on polygamy.

Epstein, a Columbia University political science professor, was charged last year with one count of incest for his three-year consensual sexual relationship with his 24-year-old daughter.

And Pinyan, the subject of a documentary film, “Zoo,” which won an award at the Sundance Film Festival, died after having sex with an Arabian stallion at a Washington state horse farm.

If the nation’s highest court declares that same-sex marriage is protected – somehow – by the Constitution, it follows that polygamous marriage, incestuous marriage and – who knows? – maybe even interspecies marriage must be similarly countenanced under the law.

Because if justices embrace a secularist, laissez faire approach to marriage, if they accept the premise President Obama tweeted yesterday – “Every American should be able to marry the person they love” – the legal takeaway will be “anything goes.”

If a man loves four different women, like Brown, have a five-way marriage. If a man has the hots for his daughter, like Epstein, marry her. If a man is smitten with an Arabian horse, like Pinyan, who are we to say they shouldn’t be wed?

That sounds absurd to those of us who continue to believe in “holy” – as opposed to unholy – matrimony. But know that there are defenders of even the most abberant “relationships.”

Indeed, Jenny Edwards, who runs Help for Horses, an organization that nurses abused and abandoned equines, arrived alongside police at the farm where Pinyan died after his sexual encounter with the stallion.

In “Zoo,” the documentary, she says she had a change of heart about man-horse relations. She came to appreciate zoophiles, like Pinyan, acknowledging, “the love and care they give their animal partners.”

As to interspecies sex? “I’m right at the edge of being able to understand it,” she said.

Similarly, Matthew Galluzzo, attorney for Epstein, said there is nothing wrong with incestuous sex between consenting adults. “It’s okay for homosexuals to do whatever they want to do in their own home,” he argued. “How is this so different?”

Brown makes his own same case.  Let everyone, he said, including gays, including polygamists, including others in “noncoventional” relationships, “Choose and define who you marry. Choose and define who you love.”

If same-sex marriage receives the blessing of the Supreme Court, does anyone doubt that polygamists, incestuous adults, and – who knows? – maybe even zoophiles will be next to demand “marriage equality?”

For that is the unGodly path down which our fallen society is heading.

The Devil Works in Insidious Ways

CMT just issued a press release promoting “an evening full of laughs” featuring comedian Ron White. “The cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking White headlines the 90-minute special,” said CMT, “giving his thoughts on being banned from the popular dating site ChristianMingle,” among other hilarious topics.

I find it interesting that CMT, which is owned by Viacom (which also owns MTV and VH1), would so prominently mention White’s riff on ChristianMingle. Especially in the wake of the recent arrest of a Del Mar, Calif. man charged with raping a woman he met on the online dating site.

Police suspect that Sean Patrick Banks used different aliases to prey upon unsuspecting women on the Christian site as he traveled frequently across the country for his job. Investigators are currently trying to identify other of Banks’ pitiable victims.

I don’t know whether CMT thinks it funny that ChristianMingle has been infiltrated by an online sexual predator. But there should be nothing funny about it to Christ followers, including those of us who usually find “Tater Salad” – as White is known – amusing.

Because what we are witnessing with ChristianMingle is spiritual warfare. And I say that not just because I published a Valentine’s Day post praising the site, an online destination place for hundreds of thousands of Christian singles looking for love with someone with whom they can share their faith life.

The Bible warns us that our adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. And I am convinced that nothing so appeals to his appetite than devouring – corrupting – the pure, the innocent, the holy, the Godly.

It began in the Garden of Eden, when the evil one corrupted Eve, who then corrupted her husband Adam. And such corruption has continued down through the ages, to this very day, manifesting itself in ways most sordid.

Indeed, is there anyone who doubts the devil successfully infiltrated the Catholic Church? How else do my Catholic friends explain the more than 10,000 child sexual abuse claims against more than 4,000 Catholic priests here in this country?

Or what about the unholy partnership between the Girl Scouts of the USA – founded by Daisy Gordon Low to promote the spiritual development (along with the physical and mental) – with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortionist?

Is not the entertainment industry under demonic influence, most obviously the adult film business, which devours young females barely older than Girl Scout Ambassadors (16 to 18 years of age), subjecting them to the most profane sexual degradation.

And who does not imagine that the evil one did not whisper in the ear of the president of the United States when he justified his endorsement of homosexual marriage by invoking the Golden Rule? When he blasphemously insisted that to “Treat others the way you would want to be treated” is to blithely accept a lifestyle the Bible declares “an abomination”?

Those of us who are Christ followers must be always on our guard against our adversary, the devil. And we must pray without ceasing for God’s divine protection, that neither we nor our loved ones fall prey to that roaring lion.

President Obama began his Inauguration Day by attending worship services at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the Nation’s Capital along with his wife Michelle and their daughters Sasha and Malia.

It was a rare church appearance for the First Family. During, during their first four years residing in the White House, they found time for the Lord not even half as many times as they managed to get away for family vacays.

After services yesterday at St. Johns, during which the president stood to receive a blessing from Bishop Vashti McKenzie, the First Family’s next stop was the U.S. Capitol, where Mr. Obama delivered his second Inaugural Address.

What amazed was the number of religious references the president made as he spoke to the hundreds of thousands assembled on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and the millions more of us watching around the country.

It was so unlike Mr. Obama to speak of “the tenets of our faith.” To agree with the nation’s founders that we are all, everyone, “endowed by our Creator” with certain unalienable rights.

To declare “freedom is a gift from God.” To mention “the eyes of God.” To profess that the planet is “commanded to our care by God.” To advocate the freedom of “every soul on Earth.” To affirm his “oath to God and country.”

Then, to wrap up his remarks not only with the perfunctory “God bless you,” but also by beseeching the Almighty to “forever bless the United States of America.”

I’d like to believe that the President recently experienced some sort of religious transformation, like Saul of Tarsus blinded by the light of the Savior on the road to Damascus.

I’d like to believe that his recent church attendance and religion-infused Inaugural Address are tell-tale signs that he will govern in his second term according to Godly principles.

But, alas, I am unconvinced.

Not the least because of Mr. Obama’s reiteration of his presidential support for homosexual marriage.

“Our journey is not complete,” he said yesterday, “until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law. For if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”

I also found it noteworthy that Mr. Obama neglected to mention abortion, purposely ignoring the fact that the day after his inauguration is the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s unholy decision in Roe v. Wade.

It would have been wonderful if the president had noted the anniversary and stood up for the right to life of the unborn the way he stood up for the supposed right of homosexuals to marry each other.

But the president was silent, signaling his continued support for the nation’s abortionists.

Jesus warned, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

President Obama said “Lord, Lord” in his Inaugural Address. But he most certainly is not doing the will of the Father.

How Christians Should Respond to Obama’s Re-Election

LET US PRAY THAT THE PRESIDENT, WHO PROFESSES HIMSELF CHRISTIAN, TRULY GOVERNS LIKE ONE.

As I join my fellow Christ followers in lamenting the re-election of a president whose policies have been decidedly unGodly, I am reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul.

“Let every soul,” he instructed, “be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”

What that means is that sovereign God, in His divine wisdom, has permitted Barack Obama to rule our troubled land another four years.

Just as He allowed Pharoah to rule Egypt during the time of Moses; Ahab to rule Israel during the time of Elijah; and Belshazzar to rule Babylon during the time of Daniel.

That God allowed those wicked men to govern in no way meant He overlooked their unrepentant sinfulness.

Indeed, He brought ten plagues upon Pharoah’s Egypt, the last of which took the life of the ruler’s first-born son.

Ahab was mortally wounded by a random arrow and died ignominiously as dogs lapped up his blood.

And Belshazarr was slain, and his kingdom lost to his enemies, after God passed judgment on him – the proverbial writing on the wall.

The point is that God remains on the throne. That he rules over all the kingdoms and the nations. That in His hand there is power and might. And that no one, not even the putative “leader of the free world,” is able to withstand Him.

So, much as it pains this evangelical Christian, I accept that Barack Obama is our nation’s duly re-elected president. And I do not challenge his governing authority over me and my house.

However, just because the mass of voters returned Obama to the White House for another four years doesn’t mean that same-sex marriage is no longer an abomination; that abortion is no longer murder; that God no longer has a place in public life.

And no matter the outcome of the presidential election, I believe it the duty of Christ followers to “speak truth to power.” To raise our voices in dissent when our elected leaders pass laws and pursue policies which clearly are contrary to God’s supreme law.

I count myself among the more than half of Americans who, according to Election Day exit polls, believe that our nation is “on the wrong track.” I also attribute the social and economic morass in which our country currently finds itself to our governing authorities, who have turned away from God.

That is why it is up to the Christian faithful to stand in the gap for America the next four years. To pray, unceasingly, that our president, who professes himself Christian, will actually govern like a true Christian.

For God has promised, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Why Christians Should Not Vote For Obama

‘BELSHAZZAR’S FEAST,’ BY REMBRANDT. ‘YOU HAVE BEEN WEIGHED IN THE BALANCES, AND FOUND WANTING.’

The Bible tells the story of Belshazzar, the very last king of Babylon, who held a great feast for a thousand of his lords during which he commanded his servants to bring the sacred vessels which had been pillaged from God’s holy temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his lords could drink from them.

In the midst of the unholy revelry, a disembodied hand materialized and wrote upon a wall: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

It was a message to Belshazzar.

“God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; Your kingdom has been divided…”

America is today ruled by a president who defies God, much as Belshazzar did. And for faithful Christ followers who remain undecided how they will vote on Election Day, let us offer ten reasons why they absolutely should not cast their ballots for Barack Obama:

I. The president refuses to acknowledge America’s Christian origins. During a state visit to Turkey, Mr. Obama told his Muslim hosts, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.” That amounted to a repudiation of the nation’s founders, almost all of whom were devoted Christ followers.

II. The president has undermined the institution of marriage – which heretofore was known as “holy matrimony” – by embracing same-sex marriage. His position defies the Word of God, which unequivocally states, “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.”

III. The president is complicit in the slaughter of more than 4.5 million unborn children during his watch, having sold his soul to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortion provider. The president even supports late-term abortion and, worst still, the withholding of physician care for babies that actually survive attempted abortion.

IV. The president has said nothing, and done nothing, about the religious oppression, the violent attacks, upon Christian minorities in Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The attacks have increased more than 300 percent over the past 10 years.

V. The president only pretends to be a friend of Israel, the birthplace of Christianity. During last year’s G-20 Summit in Canne, French President Nicolas Sarkozy told Mr. Obama that he couldn’t bear Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom Sarkozy called “a liar.” The president concurred. “You’re fed up?” he said. “I have to deal with him everyday.”

VI. The president gave his imprimatur to a decision to remove any reference to “God” in the Democratic Party Platform, and any declaration of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel (a designation disputed by Islamists who refuse to accept Israel’s right to exist). He reversed course only after a great public outcry.

VII. The president is hostile to religious freedom as evidence by the argument his  administration made before the Supreme Court that church employees can claim workplace discrimination when their beliefs or conduct are contrary to the tenets of their faith-based employers.

VIII. The president’s health care reform mandates the insurers provide contraceptives on demand for single women – like Sandra Fluke – which amounts to tacit approval of sexual promiscuity.

IX. The president takes spiritual counsel from radical pastors like Jeremiah Wright and Joseph Lowery. Rev. Wright, who married Barack and Michelle Obama, infamously stated that, instead of singing “God Bless America,” blacks should sing “God Damn America.” Rev. Lowry, who spoke at Obama’s inauguration, just recently said, when he was a young civil rights activist, he would say “all white folks are going to hell.” Then he mellowed “and just said most of them are.” Now, he said, he is back to where he was.

X. The president professes himself a man of faith but has managed to attend Sunday church services not even a tenth as many times as he has stolen away from the White House to play golf.

Obama’s Ungodly Policies Risk Black Christian Votes

‘PRESIDENT OBAMA IS LEADING THE COUNTRY DOWN AN IMMORAL PATH,’ SAID REV. WILLIAM OWENS.

Once upon a time, I wrote a newspaper column while onsite at a Democratic National Convention.

I opined that, “It really doesn’t matter who the Democrats nominate as their party standard-bearer – Bill Clinton, David Duke or a loaf of bread – black voters will blindly support him (or it).”

Indeed, blacks have gone overwhelming Democrat since the 1932 presidential election, when Franklin Roosevelt captured 71 percent of the black vote.

Given that history, most political observers expect the same outcome when black voters go to the polls this upcoming November. Especially since one of their own is running for a second term in the White House.

Well, I have a different view. While I expect that the majority of blacks will indeed cast their ballots for Barack Obama, I seriously doubt he will capture 95 percent of the black vote this time around.

That’s because a certain segment of the black population – socially conservative, church-going Christians – are none too pleased with the ungodly positions the president has taken on such issues as same-sex marriage and abortion.

Indeed, the 1,300-member Coalition of African-American Pastors is currently circulating a petition among their church congregations encouraging Obama to reconsider his election-year support for same-sex couplings.

“By embracing gay marriage,” said Rev. William Owens, the Coalition’s president, “President Obama is leading the country down an immoral path. Some things are bigger than the next election.”

Then there’s the National Black ProLife Coalition, a network of pro-life and pro-family organizations. It points out that abortion is the leading cause of death for blacks.

And that Democrat-aligned Planned Parenthood, whose president got podium time at the Democrat convention in Charlotte, is most responsible for the yearly slaughter of pre-born black babies.

“We’re calling out black leaders,” the Coalition declares, “who align themselves with the destructive eugenic force of Planned Parenthood.” That includes Obama, who has sold his soul to the abortion-industrial complex.

So, while a majority of black voters almost certainly will line up behind Obama again – despite the immoral path down which he has led this nation, as Rev. Owens lamented, those that place God above political party, above racial hegemony, will vote not to return him to the White House.

A Pastor Sells His Soul to the Party of Obama

PASTOR DERRICK HARKINS COMPROMISES HIS FAITH TO SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

Rev. Derrick Harkins is a hypocrite.

He’s the pastor of Nineteenth Street Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., which the Washington Post describes as “theologically conservative.” And he serves on the board of the National Association of Evangelicals.

But the Baptist preacher also is the National Director of Faith Outreach for the Democratic National Committee, which supports public policies that are an affront to the Almighty.

Indeed, today Harkins presides over a meeting of the party’s so-called Faith Caucus at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Its task is to devise a strategy to somehow persuade Christian voters that the party’s platform is about “being our brother’s keeper” and “compassion.”

Pastor Harkins should be reminded of the Scripture which declares: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.”

Harkins obviously believes that Scripture does not apply to him. He thinks he can be, at once, a faithful Christ follower and loyal Democrat.

But the reality – which the pastor is too blind to see – is that his service to the party of Obama is a disservice to the Kingdom of God.

Indeed, there simply is no way that a man of God can support a president, support a political party, that defends the yearly slaughter of more than one million unborn children. And there’s no way that a pastor faithful to God’s Word could blithely associate himself with a president and a party that promote the abomination of same-sex marriage.

I imagine Harkins rationalizes his hypocrisy by invoking the words of Jesus: “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” And I imagine the pastor deludes himself that he is somehow following the Savior’s example.

But the Democrats in Charlotte are absolutely unrepentant of their advocacy of ungodly policies. And they are absolutely convinced that the wrongdoers are those of us who oppose abortion, who oppose homosexual nuptials.

Harkins knows this. Yet he continues to fellowship with those who shake their fists at God, who are gathered this week at the Democratic convention.

The Bible tells the stories of two men – Samson and Saul – who were once highly favored by God, but from whom God’s Spirit departed when they did their will, rather than His.

Those should be cautionary tales for Pastor Harkin. By casting his lot with unrepentant abortionists and sodomites – among other recalcitrant sinners partying in Charlotte – he risks the same spiritual ruin as Samson and Saul.

No More Denying Attacks on Religious Freedom

AUTHORITATIVE NEW REPORT PRODUCED BY LIBERTY INSTITUTE AND FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL.

“I don’t think, generally, Christians are being persecuted in this country.” So said Barack Obama, during his first run for the White House.

The president won’t be able to make that claim this time around. Not after the release this week of the “Survey on Religious Hostility in America,” jointly produced by Liberty Institute and the Family Research Council (the recent target of such religious hostility).

Liberty and FRC declare, “Hostility to religious liberty has reached an all-time high, and the attacks are increasing at an unprecedented rate.” Their well-researched survey documents more than 600 cases of bigotry against people of faith.

Among the more egregious examples:

– The faithful Christian nurse ordered to assist a late-term abortion at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York or lose both her job and her nursing license.

– The federal judge who threatened a high school valedictorian in Castroville, Texas with “incarceration” unless the young Christ follower removed references to Jesus in her graduation speech.

– The institution of a new policy by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs secularizing funerals for vets at national cemeteries, with no references to God or the veteran’s faith, overriding the wishes of the vet’s family for a religious funeral.

– The Christian couple that managed an apartment complex in Lake City, Florida that was fired by their supervisor for being “too religious” because they displayed a piece of artwork that had pictures of lilies and a quotation from the Book of Matthew, “Consider the lilies of the field…”

– The New Mexico Civil Rights Commission’s finding that Christian-owned Elane Photography Company was guilty of “sexual orientation” discrimination because it refused to photograph same-sex weddings.

If these were but isolated cases, it would be hard for Liberty Institute and FRC to persuade much of the public that religious liberty is under assault throughout America. But their jointly-produced survey has provided example after example after example – more than 600 in all.

One would have to be an atheist, or a recalcitrant Obama supporter, not to see the obvious pattern of hostility toward people of faith; Christians in particular.

Companies Pay No Price for Offending Christians

MICROSOFT CO-FOUNDER BILL GATES AND CEO STEVE BALLMER HAVE COME OUT FOR GAY MARRIAGE.

So Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer each donated $100,000 each to defeat Referendum 74, a state of Washington  ballot measure that would overturn  a law, passed by the state’s “progressive” legislature and governor, that would allow same-sex marriages.

What both the Microsoft co-founder and CEO are telling those of us who use the software giant’s products, who object to homosexual couplings, who consider it an abomination in the eyes of the God, is that they couldn’t care less about our religious sensibilities.

If we don’t like their politics, too bad. We’re welcome to purchase our next operating system from some company other than Microsoft.

That’s the attitude of not only Gates and Ballmer, but executives of all too many Fortune 500 companies that promote causes and organizations that most social conservatives, most evangelical Christians, find objectionable.

Indeed, the list of corporations that have gotten in bed with gay rights activists on same-sex marriage includes not only Microsoft, but also Starbucks, Boeing, Google, Nike, Time Warner Cable,Aetna, Xerox, Goldman Sachs, Viacom and Alcoa.

There is a similar, unholy relationship between Fortune 500 corporations and Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortion provider. While few companies directly fund the death dealers, many indirectly support its agenda through such seemingly innocent organizations as the Girl Scouts and the YWCA..

Indeed, the Girl Scouts have partnered with Planned Parenthood to “bring information-based sex education programs to girls.” The YWCA has hooked up with the abortion “rights” organization to co-host workshops on youth pregnancy and prevention.

The list of corporations complicit in Planned Parenthood’s slaughter of innocents include Alcoa, All State, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Dell, Dove, Lockheed Martin, MetLife and Motorola.

I know  there are some, if not many, who count themselves evangelical Christians or social conservatives or both, who have misgivings about signing on to boycotts, for one reason or another.

Well, I will not presume to suggest that they ignore their misgivings; that they no longer drink Starbucks coffee or wear Nike sneakers or use AT&T as their cellular service provider.

I will only say that, as for me and my house, we will not give one dollar more to such corporations for them to use in support of causes – like same-sex marriage and abortion – that we find morally repugnant.

Too Bad Brad Pitt is Not the Christian His Mom is

DEVOUT CHRISTIAN JANE PITT ALONGSIDE HER PRODIGAL SON BRAD.

Jane Pitt sent her son Brad, the actor, a message yesterday: She doesn’t like his liberal politics. She doesn’t like his Hollywood values.

Mama Pitt, a Christian, didn’t express her disapproval directly.

She did so, indirectly (and cleverly, I think), in a letter to her hometown newspaper, the Springfield, Missouri News-Leader, responding to the suggestion of another reader that Christians should not vote for Mitt Romney because of his Mormon faith.

“I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer,” Mama Pitt urged, “before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.”

She added, “Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama – a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

Jane Pitt’s letter had to resonate with her prodigal son Brad.

Indeed, he and his domestic partner, actress Angelina Jolie, have donated money to organizations providing humanitarian support to people affected by the crisis inDarfur.

He is a co-founder of Not On Our Watch, a Hollywood organization that focuses global attention on “mass atrocities,” excluding, of course, abortion.

And he founded the Make it Right Foundation, which built affordable, environmentally “sustainable” new homes in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

But as Jane Pitt would advise her son, all his seeming righteousness is like filthy rags in the eyes of God.

For by grace we are saved, through faith. It is the gift of God, not of works.
